If your family has been impacted by substance use, addiction, or overdose—know that there is hope. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or young person, this site connects you to tools, local resources, and support to help you navigate substance use prevention, intervention, and recovery.

Talking with your child can make all the difference.

Avoid scare tactics when discussing substance use – they don’t work. Fear can get in the way of learning new information. Stick to using facts, avoid judgement, and let them know you care. Refer to helpful conversation guides from Friends for Life or Talk Even If for facts and guidance.

Support for youth

Resources designed for teens and young adults.

If your child is struggling or at risk, there are local and national programs to help them understand the risks of substance use, build resilience, and access treatment or recovery services when needed.

  1. Teen Link or 866-833-6546: Connect with a trained teen volunteer to talk about your concerns or whatever’s on your mind – bullying, drug and alcohol concerns, relationships, stress, depression or any other issues you’re facing. Calls and chats are confidential. Call from 6pm-10pm and chat/text from 6pm-9:30pm.
  2. For those in immediate crisis – Call 988
    • Services are available 24/7 by phone, text, or chat.
  3. Friends for Life: Learn about fentanyl and other opioids, how to keep your friends safe with naloxone (and where to find it), and how to get help with MOUD (medications for opioid use disorder).
  4. Find Naloxone Near You: Use the Washington State Naloxone Finder
  5. Narateen Meetings: Narateen meetings provide support and hope to young people (ages 13-17) whose lives have been affected by a relative or friend’s addiction. Narateen meetings are facilitated and monitored by experienced and certified Nar-Anon members.

Support for parents

Supporting a child through substance use is heavy and complex. Whether you’re looking for peer support, professional guidance, or just someone who understands, these resources are here for you.

  1. SMART Recovery Groups: Their family and friends meetings utilize a CRAFT-aligned approach to help stay connected with a loved with substance use disorder.
  2. Helping Families Help: This website will “introduce you to CRAFT, an evidence-based method for motivating your loved one towards recovery while taking care of yourself in the process & connect you with longer-term CRAFT-based resources and supports to continue to learn and practice these skills and perspectives through time.”
  3. Helpline: Get One-on-One Help to Address Your Child’s Substance Use. Text CONNECT to 55753, email, or make an appointment for a call. Talk to a trained and caring specialist about the challenges, setback, obstacles, and difficult emotions that go along with a child’s substance use and addiction. Available in English and Spanish. Confidential and free.
  4. Talk, They’ll Hear You: Find resources to help guide conversations with youth about alcohol and other substances.
  5. Substance Use Disorder Support - Seattle Public Schools: Information on addiction / substance use disorders and treatment options.

  • Edmonds College - Next Steps Re-entry Program
    • Help with enrolling in courses to obtain high school diploma or GED, assistance with financial aid, case management, community resources.

  • Cocoon House
    • A non-profit that serves homeless, at-risk youth in Snohomish County, WA.
    • Cocoon House staff can connect with young people and their families throughout Snohomish County, whether it be in their homes, in our programs, schools, or anywhere else in the community. All youth and families are provided the tools and support they need to address conflict and barriers while providing a pathway towards independence and building stronger families.

      • A clothing shop at the CRC for teens and young adults, in emergent need, where they can "shop" for free, new or very gently used clothing, hygiene items, and other much-needed supplies.
